The widespread failure to protect children is a global crisis, with 0.5-1.5 billion children experiencing violence each year (Pinheiro 2006), 150 million girls and 73 million boys who are raped or subject to sexual violence (WHO 2000), and 115 million children engaged in extremely harmful forms of work (ILO 2010). This global crisis represents a major violation of children's rights; an unacceptable situation, which must be remedied urgently, no matter what the costs.

STUDY ON CHILD VICTIMS OF CRIME AND LEGAL PROCEEDINGS: THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA CASE

According to a new study released on April 24, 2013 by the National Center for Child Abuse Prevention (CN PAC), in co-operation with SOCIOPOLIS Center of Investigations and Consultation, Moldova experienced an increased number of cases in the criminal justice system that involved child victims of crime, mainly children aged 10-16. The study was conducted with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Moldova Civil Society Strengthening Program (MCSSP), implemented by FHI 360

Resolution of the Council of Europe on fighting child sex tourism

On 23 April , the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has adopted the resolution on "Fighting child sex tourism".

New law on the protection of children against the negative impact of public information in Moldova

On March 7, the Moldovan Parliament adopted the Law on the protection of children against the negative impact of public information.
The law aims to establish criteria of negative impact of public information on children; clear provisions and standards on the spread information; rights, and obligations of the actors involved in developing, preparing, broadcasting, and supervising this activity of public interest.
