Childhood without abuse - towards better child protection system in Eastern Europe

The project concerns a collaborative initiative of NGO's in 7 Eastern European countries over a five year period (2005 - 2009) to raise awareness and expertise in relation to the problem of child abuse and neglect (CAN) in those countries. The leading NGO on this project is Nobody's Children Foundation, Poland. In cooperation with coordinators from each of the participating countries - Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland and Ukraine there are created opportunities to enhance understanding and standard of prevention and intervention across the seven countries.
Taking into consideration the above "regional specificity" the project aims to:
• develop regional standards and solution in the field of CAN
• train professionals dealing with CAN and support them through networking, good practices, contact with international experts
• work out more effective system of a direct assistance for abused children in the region by raising social awareness on the problem of child abuse.

The program started in March 2005 and is supposed to end in 2009 and is divided into five "thematic years" focusing on the following: 2005 - prevention, 2006 - diagnosis and intervention; 2007 - legal protection; 2008 - interdisciplinary work, 2009 - institutional abuse. The basic activities conducted within the frameworks of the program are: training, supervision and site visit programs, publications, social campaigns, research analysis.
